Action Alert
The Fighting Poverty with Faith 2011 mobilization, “Working Together to End Hunger,” focuses on protecting and strengthening the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps). Over 44 million Americans rely on SNAP to provide enough food for their families. 47.5% of SNAP recipients are children and 8.3% are seniors. The Fighting Poverty with Faith mobilization is united to protect SNAP from funding cuts and significant structural changes that would lead to a weakened program and lesser accessibility for those in need. We educate our local communities and elected officials about the importance of food assistance programs such as SNAP, and how SNAP can help both vulnerable communities and local economies.
During the week of Fighting Poverty with Faith (Oct 27-Nov 6), Fighting Poverty with Faith encourages you to take action by signing our Action Alert and asking your friends, family, colleagues, and religious community to do the same!
This Action Alert will focus on SNAP protection; the exact details of the “ask” will depend on the current political situation, and will be made available in the week leading up to the mobilization.
Thank you for your support! We depend on your voice to build the public and political will to end hunger and poverty in the United States.
